How Many Emails Can I Send And Receive?

Description: This document describes how SolutionPro’s POP City Email system blocks or “rate limits” the quantity of emails that can be sent or received to a user.

NOTE: This policy is not defined by SolutionPro. CityEmail has made this their policy and our customers must obey by these rules. There will be no exceptions to their policy.

For any outbound emails, the rate limiter will count the number of emails that are received from each IP address in a 5 minute window. If that number is over 150, the IP address will be “rate limited”, which means that it can no longer connect to port 25 on the mail server & the IP address will be blocked.

In addition, the system will add an additional 15 to the overall number of emails sent if the sender sends to an email address that is nonexistent. Having a nonexistent recipient will cause the account to be suspended very quickly.  This is to ensure that brute force attacks and spam in general are stopped much faster.

For any inbound emails, the rate limiter will only allow 150 messages within a 5 minute window. If the recipient exceeds this amount the IP address will be 'rate limited', which means that it can no longer connect to port 110 on the mail server & the IP address will be blocked.

If one user from an organization exceeds the rate limited quantity and they share a public IP address, all users within that organization will be rate limited as well since the security policy is based by IP address.

Any rate limited IP address is removed automatically from the system at 12AM, 6AM, 12PM, & 6PM Pacific Standard Time. The account can only be unsuspended manually 3 times. After that CityEmail will no longer unlock the account and the 6 hour suspension duration must be waited out.

Typical signs that an account has been rate limited account include a username and password pop up box that will not go away on an email client. If you believe that your account may be rate limited please contact SolutionPro Support.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it the first 150 messages will deliver, but the remaining 10 will be rejected.

EX 2: An outside source (sender) This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it sends 100 emails to (receiver) This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and 10 other email addresses in your business. Let’s say 5 of addresses are no longer valid accounts. Since 5 of those accounts are bad that adds 75 additional connection attempts to the original 100 emails This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it tried sending, thus resulting in the blocking sender because the 150 rate limit has been reached.
